Exhaust Pipe 280SL from SLS
« on: May 29, 2019, 20:26:44 »
I tried searches "exhaust SLS" in various combinations, not getting a single hit...

Does anyone have any experience with late exhaust pipe (front) from SLS? I am mainly after fit to manifolds.

My exhaust pipe is falling apart. MB are saying "additional quality control because of a new supplier, availability next week" - for over a month now. I may need to end up with SLS one - I see they have the correct "connections" between the flows in the two pipes. But I am not sure about fit...

Reach out to Tyler S here on the forum.  He can tell you more. He has tried many after market ones and they are all bad.  He is waiting for the MB ones also.   ;D

BTW.  I'm talking about the non stainless systems.

Thank you, will ask TylerS.

Minerva, are you fitting the SLS stainless? In any case I think tips are welcome anyway here, not only by me, all will benefit, thank you!

He can give you more info on the cross over pipe and fit issues.

Thank you!

I know this thread and I also reviewed the one about the cross-over pipes struggle to eliminate noises, hissing, etc., which was not encouraging...

I sent Tyler a PM about the manifold fit.

Still hope the MB one will show up...

Here's some pictures of the first fit of an SLS stainless exhaust on a 230sl.
The car is almost finished a major restoration, I can't vouch for the fit of the rear silencer as I built the car to fit it! Both rear silencer hangers were welded on to suit the fit if the rear silencer.
It all needed small tweaks but nothing major, the system.comes with 2 stubs that bolt to the manifold, the twins pipes then slide over them and are clamped to the stubs. Biggest issue I had there was the small turn in these pipes sent the system too far towards the centre of the car, I had to heat each bend, bending one slightly forwards and one slightly backwards so the pipes would line up in the recess in the floor. Everything else lined up good, apart from cutting small pieces from.the ends of some of the pipes all was good.
Just bear in mind that car has had major reconstruction so some lining issues may be with the car and others with the exhaust!
Keith.

Some more photos, I don't seem.to have one of the centre box, also I haven't run the car yet with the exhaust on so can't vouch for the exhaust note, but stainless I've you d is usually more boomy than mild steel.
