Fuel Pump “short” 71’ 280 SL
« on: April 09, 2019, 16:36:13 »
I’ve seen several posts about fuel pumps but I haven’t seen this question, if it’s there please excuse.  The bottom of the housing protecting the electric fuel pump is wet, gasoline from the finger wipe smell test. I’ve had some lines replaced in the last 2 years that were starting to fail. The car starts and runs fine.  Is this more likely a line leak or a leak from the fuel pump itself? What’s the best way to determine?

The best way to check is to clean (dry) the pump and then use talc powder (baby powder) squeeze a thin coat on the pump it will be apparent where it is coming from... my bet is the output connector valve, the nut(19mm) can be tight but if the inner tube is not seated correctly will leak .
