Automatic shift gate plastic guide mount.
« on: January 08, 2019, 00:29:16 »
I've purchased a new plastic guide that mounts on the top of the trans tunnel.  I guess I fail at my feeble attempt to remove the old and mount the new guide.  How is this done?  I don't see a way to take the chrome top piece off.  Is it done from the underside of the tunnel?

I'm the same guy who couldn't find the high beam switch under the carpeting.  I'll be at the junior level here forever!

Hi Tom, remove the shifter ball by tapping it upward, it is just pressed on the splined shifter shaft.  Next remove the four 10mm bolts holding the chrome shifter gate to the tunnel, and lift it off. Take it to your work bench to wok on it. It take a fair amount of patience and wrangling to coax it into correct position. Be careful with the chrome metal holding tabs, they can easily be broken off. Each time you bend these little tabs they weaken and eventually break off. So try to make it work the first time.
