Are these Mercedes 113 soft top handles?
« on: December 02, 2018, 19:58:29 »
I've had these for some time, not sure which car they are for, I wondered if they'd come from a 113

Yes.  The pouch and I think the handles are now being reproduced.  quite valuable as originals.

@Shvegel

Do you happen to have a link or know where to get the reproductions?

Thanks

I think more.  I seem to remember seeing the pouch and handles for sale on German eBay for $240 last month.  However I'm not sure if that was a fair price.

A nice original pouch is worth more than the two handles since you can buy good handle reproductions now:
https://www.ebay.de/itm/CHROM-VERDECKGRIFFE-VERDECKHEBEL-MERCEDES-W113-MASSIV-TOPQUALITAT/401501662993?

For comparison here is an auction for used old ones:

This discussion on handles reminds me of what happened to mine last spring in France. My wife and I went for lunch in the Pagoda to Club 55, a rather "exclusive" beach restaurant in St.Tropez.
Soft top was down and the original handles in their pouch, were in the glove compartment.

When we arrived at the restaurant's parking area, there were about 8 classic cars ranging from a couple of Porsche 356's, a couple of 190SL's and 1 Pagoda, all with German registrations.
By the time we finished lunch these guys had all left. I got back to my car and as I drove off the glove compartment door swung open. I then noticed that the pouch with the handles was missing!

I guess it's entirely my fault for not locking the glove compartment, however it's still infuriating. I would have never thought that fellow classic car enthusiasts can behave like low life petty thieves!

Lesson learnt.

Best,
Mike

Mike, I really, but really and seriously believe these were not fellow classic enthusiasts. On any plates.

It might have been anyone passing by or watching that rich parking, waiting for opportunity to take something. I am 150% sure that was the case.

I lock the glove box, I switch on the immobilizer, but do not lock the doors.  for the simple reason I do not want them damaged.

Thank for your feedback Pawel.

However the restaurant parking is in an enclosed secure area and only accessible to restaurant patrons. Nothing else was taken from the car other than the pouch with the handles, my hand held Garmin GPS, also in the glove box wasn't taken.

I repeat, it's entirely my fault for not locking the glove box.

Best,
Mike

It annoys me that you feel the need to blame yourself for someone else stealing from you!
