Dash upholstery

Hello,

Got to dash upholstery on our 1963 230SL. Does anybody know if there was a thin layer of foam between leather and support or if the leather was glued directly on it ? Question is for dashboard as well as A and B pilars panels on a 1963 car. Quite specific! Our car was redone in the 80s so no way to know...
