Taillamp and chrome trim gaskets
« on: August 25, 2018, 17:33:43 »
I'm trying to determine the correct setup for the rubber gaskets behind the taillamps and the horizontal chrome strip that connects them.  I've looked through the forums as well as at several vehicles in books (ie, Meredith) and online (ie, BaT) and I can't find any guidance or consistency on this that goes into details on model years or variants.  My car is a mid-'66 230SL and has rubber behind both the taillamps and the chrome strip.  I suspect it's not correct, but I prefer the appearance.  Are there any reliable guidelines to originality out there?

The small rubber piece behind the taillights and the chrome strip between them is not correct for the 230 SL or 250 SL. I don't know off the top the change over points. Others will chime in here.

I, too, like the look, and have the strip on my 250 SL, even though it is not correct.
