Paint Thickness tester

Have you ever been told: Oh yes Sir - brand new - all original - never been painted - no filler ?
Attached are pictures taken today on my car: I always suspected that the air scoop had never been painted and I know that the hard top was painted. The meter is set to mil. 1/10 of one mm is 4 mils
The pic of the hard top is hard to see: It shows 12 mils
