Hi All,

I have rebuilt my early fuel pump and the last task was to fit the o-ring to the bottom of the casing.

The o-ring diameter is slightly too small to fit in the groove naturally. Although I can manipulate it in, I cannot hold it in position and fit the cover.

Anyone got any experience / tips or can confirm the correct size o-ring should just sit in the groove.

I had the same problem. I slightly stretched the O-rings by hand a bit and then held "glued" them down with a few drops of silicone before I placed the cover.

When presented with a small O-ring.   I hold it in an over-stretched position using whatever is available, a can of grease, a jar, a bottle of wine, whatever.  Leave it for an hour or so.  Then take it off and if will retain a stretched diameter long enough to install.

All rings are slightly smaller than the groove to compensate for expansion when compressed.  What i do on the short pumps is put one side in groove then using the bottom plate slide it over to the exposed part and it will bring the non grooved (for lack of a better word) gasket over with it and then will hear and audible click when all sides of the gasket drops together into the groove.  Then keeping pressure on bottom plate place and tighten the screws.
Just my technique.

Hi All (first Posting),
I am rebuilding a later style short fuel pump and I cant figure out how to remove the electrical connectors to replace the o-rings behind them (which is where the pump had failed, with fuel pouring out through those connector openings). Is there a way to remove those recessed nuts? I would prefer to not have to unsolder the wires at the brushes. Any recommendations?

So, you're saying that unsoldering the wires is the only way to change those 2 o-rings? Thanks!

Yes. You must unsolder and the resolder the wires. Do not pull the connector out until the solder is loose. It is not that hard to resolder these connections.
