Matti´s other cars
« on: November 24, 2017, 05:43:28 »
Garry,
I couldn´t find any photos at home of my Beetle. I found these on the internet.
I bought this beetle in 1988 as a very rusty basket case. The floors and rocker sills were gone. I ended to use pan plate form -67 1500 Beetle. I get this project finished in spring 1990. It run 1/4 mile at 14,91s / 146 kmh. I sold this car in 1996 and it´s still alive. It has now turbocharged motor.

Wow what a resto-mod. The engine compartment is spectacular. And you did all of this yourself? Your car should be on one of those TV shows.

Your pagoda must be a piece of cake compared to the work you did your Mark.

Thank´s John. I have done almost everything my self.
I don´t have a painting booth so the final spraying for the exterior have been done by a professional car painter in a paint shop. My sewing machine can´t handle leather. The seats are upholstered by a professional. I did the carpets, head liner, dash and the trunk my self.
I have done all grinding, sanding and polishing for the chrome parts before I sent them to a chrome shop. That was a BIG job.
I have a machinist back ground so the car has a lot billet parts that I have made.

Btw. Did you notice that the "hump" on the trunk lid is gone?

wow I must admit I missed the fact that the trademark continental hump is gone. It does look good that way although I've always liked the spare tire hump. What was the impetus for removing it? That had to be a lot of  work and craftmenship.

In 2003 I was looking for a new project. I thought the time was right for an American car. Somewhere I came across an article of Ford´s 100 year history. Bang! There it was, a photo of MK II at Geneva in 1955. What an exceptional, beautiful and elegant car! Like 50´s-60´s Italian car with steroids. Though in my opinion the silhouette of the car was ruined with that ugly hump. I made the decision. Some day I will build an Continental MK II without continental hump... Here we are.

I built my own English-wheel for this project.
