Restoration of Hardtop Headliner
« on: December 15, 2004, 06:58:05 »
I recently bought a SL280 69 with hardtop - but without any headliner. How difficult is it to restore / install new headliner? I have read about an article in march-april number of 94/star - but have not found it.

Can anybody inform me on how to do this job and also the best source of buying a new headliner...

Regards
Kjell

Kjell,
The headliner material is available from many suppiers. I suggest one f the suppliers listed on this site. Ray at SL Clasics has been very helpful to me over the years. I believe the cost is less than $100. The problem is instaling the headliner. I was told that the proper installation requires the removal and replacement of the window seals on the hardtop. This is a difficult procedure and the seals are expensive. I was lucky to find a well qualified auto upholsterer who know how to replace the headliner without removing the windows.

Kjell,

If you would email me off line, with an address I can send you a copy of the article from the Star magazine. It was the March/April 1994 issue. Written by Gernold Nisius at SL Tech.
