Smoke in 1 gear

Hi guys! I hope you can advice me. I noticed that my car especially in strong acceleration in first gear ( I have the zf 5speed) makes a good amount of black smoke. I did the ultrasound cleaning of the enjectors but the problem is the same . My mechanic told me to add with the fuel an additive from Bardahl called "top", it seems to clean all injection pump . You think is good advice? Thank you :)

Black smoke = too much fuel and it is almost unheard of for injectors to fail in a way that such smoke is the result.
Have you followed the linkage tour?

I would start looking for a different mechanic.

Or clogged air filter.
Do the linkage tour as StickandRudderman said.
And a different mechanic who knows these old cars and the mechanical fuel system.

The Linkage Tour, the most useful tool in the Tech Manual if you wish to maintain your own car, is only available to Full Members.

Is the engine still somewhat cold when you start out? If so, your cold start device still  adds fuel!

Is it strong or loose power at higher rpms?

How could that be? The CSV should only be energized when you use the starter and is supposed to shut off when you disengage it. If you mean that it's leaking then I could agree with that possibility.

More than likely the pump is set  too rich.

For sure that car is running too rich.. the fuel consumption is about 4km/liter. Can be also the thermostat? Mine for sure is always opened because the car stay always about 75degrees Celsius instead of 90. The only positive thing is that there is not risk of overheating which is very dangerous for this cars especially in my area. Would be perfect to have a scheme of all regulations to do for the linkage and injection pump.

Where is my Italian? 'Fa niente' 4 liter /100Km is too much fuel consumption even on your mountain roads. You should go back to the basic engine tuning adjustments: start with measuring compression, then adjust the linkage from the injection pump to the throttle body. Then check your warm-up device and, like Dr. Benz pointed out, make sure it does not leak. Check the thermostat to make sure the engine runs at about 180 degrees (I think that is about 90 Celsius). You have to do these things in a methodical way and it takes time. Look at the color of your spark plugs: they are a window into your engine and tell you if you are running too rich. Be careful that you do not cross-thread the cylinder head. Stick a rubber hose over the spark plug and thread them in by twisting the rubber hose. Be gentle! These are very nice cars and run wonderful with lots of power but you have to learn how to treat them. Just like an Arabian horse.

Thank you for all advices you gave me, I will try to look for a better mechanic in order to solve this problems starting from replacing the thermostat which is always opened and check all linkages.. I will think it over to became full member  ;)

May I suggest that you buy the workshop manual which is published by Mercedes. It is about 2 inches thick (5 cm to you) and has much information. It is well worth the cost. You sometimes find it on eBay. And then you should learn about your car because without that knowledge you cannot judge if a mechanic is competent to work on your car. All the mechanics who used to work on these cars 50 years ago are either dead or retired. Most all the mechanics you talk to will tell you that they are knowledgeable about your car but that is just sales hype. I ran across one 230SL that a woman had left at a specialist for fuel injection: They worked on it and never again could it get started. I adjusted things and had it running in an hour. Got a free dyno run for it.
