Has anybody ever even heard of these "Fanfare" horns?  I have no doubt they are "authentic" (look at the beat up old box) but even the good Doctor has never heard of them, thus I'd like to know how these things are denoted for 113's.

Anybody seen or heard of these before?

"Fanfare Zweiklang" code 452 was available for most MBs of that era, but probably not necessarily ordered for the W113 since they had the "Starktonhorn", loud horn, as standard equipment in comparison to the weaker horns of the lesser models. Also, the other models, like e.g. the W114/115 sported these optional horns outside in front, above the bumper, chromed and visible and as such had some appeal for certain people (I once had a 114 with them and the disadvantage was that when you had a minor frontal collision they were pushed back into the sheet metal, resulting in additional unnecessary damage). On the W113 they would have been under the hood, and less loud than the standard horns.

<<What Hz do the Starktonhorn horn work at. Any body know?>>
Naj,
the base frequency of the "Starktonhorn" (Aufschlaghorn) is around 300 Hz, which creates strong upper harmonics which give the horn its characteristic sound. These upper harmonics are usually within a narrow band between 2000 and 3000 Hz, since these frequences were found to penetrate street noise best.

In contrast to this, the Fanfare has a broad spectrum of upper harmonics between 600 and 1600 Hz, making its sound melodic and less penetrating.
