Hi all just bought my 1963 220se from a Mercedes dealer in Adelaide  was his wife's car  they had started the resto on it had all the body and paint done all the trim has been done all mechanical recond all I have to do is assemble it hopefully its straight forward  1 owner with books  I went to his dealership to pick up a part for my 113 and got talking to him and he said  I have this 220 coupe for sale. And I took one look at it and bought it on the spot

Exactly! The most depressing part of a restoration is when you are in the middle of taking everything apart. You start wondering what you have engaged in, you cannot go back, more parts are to be taken out etc. Then comes the refection of the body and different mechanical parts. It is a long process, but starts being rewarding. Then comes the best time of the restoration which is putting everything back together. The bulk of the work is behind and you can see fast progress. I wonder why someone would sell a project at that point though.

I've seen it many times which is why you should never start something you aren't prepared to finish.

I have been chipping away for the last 5 years and am on the home stretch to complete a 1963 220SEB coupe just like yours.

Yes, incredible find. I bought a Roadrunner that wasn't in as good as shape as this and was disassembled. The hardest part for me was knowing if all the parts were there. Not so much talking major components, but small brackets, clips and so on. Let us know if you need help with pictures of detail items.

Thanks for posting the link to the pictures. Interesting to see the differences between the earlier and later W111 coupes. What does the flap on the firewall do? My 280SE doesn't have that. My 220SE W128 has the two plunger pump and will be fun looking how the W111 is set up.
