CARFAX search
« on: December 07, 2015, 14:01:32 »
Hi Pagoda friends,

My Pagoda is a red 280 SL automatic from 1969-11 and 1970 yr model, US spec, red with black top. I contacted CARFAX asking them to present a history report of my car. But, CARFAX just took my money stating they had no info on "old cars with such short ID numbers."

The car was imported to Sweden from Minnesota in 1997. The owner in US had it for 29 years but he does not remember any longer whom he bought it from.

Mercedes ID Nbr is W11304412014150. Motor id is 13098312009096.
What ID number shall I present to satisfy CARFAX needs for a longer ID number?
Thanks in advance from
Lars in Sweden

Carfax can not help with this, they rely on standardized VIN, which did not happen until 1981.  There are no other sources for origin info except for prior owner memories...which are highly suspect.  Your best source of truth is a good mechanic's review of the condition of the car, imo.

Carfax knows they rely on a 17 digit database. They should not have charged you for a service they cannot offer.
