Put-in-Bay Pagoda Gathering on Lake Erie Sat 12-4pm
« on: September 16, 2014, 21:06:06 »
Folks,

We've got about 4-5 pagodas from Cleveland and Columbus who are planning to make a run to Put-in-Bay on Lake Erie this Saturday from 12-4pm (not including ferry time).  It's supposed to be 82 and sunny, and we'll grab a lunch and talk Benz.  May even talk about PUB.

Anyone interested, please reply here and we will forward the logistics.  We are about 85% for going at this time.

Sorry Friends, I cannot make it. Wife now in a wheelchair since mid April and my outings are limited to short trips around town (max 3 hours). Learning how to be a good Caregiver is my new outlook on life. Still spending time with my Pagoda gives me some time off that I do look forward to.

I've so enjoyed meeting all of you in Williamsburg, Virginia last September and Mike on our way thru Charleston on our way down south. You all have a great trip and post plenty of pictures to share with us that cannot join you.

BTW. Talking about outings, I spend 6 hours today in the Hospital with my Wife, it gave me time to read Pagoda World Issue 15 from Cover to Cover, what a great issue it is. I hope you all enjoyed it as well! Thanks to Peter, Waqas, Garry, Ray and Stan for the great stories and photographs (I think I spotted my Blue Tornado in some of the photos in the hotel parking lot as well as on the concours on the green if only in the far distance still it is hiding between all them fine automobiles) :) I noticed The Polish 5 Car Team showed the Polish Flag ... I had the same idea driving onto the green at the New Kent Winery as I put a American, Canadian and German flag into the center hold down lock for the hardtop after arriving early at the Winery. Arriving as the first Pagoda at the Winery they made my car the lead car I was surprised indeed of being selected for that task.

Someone ask me "Why the three flags?" I told them "Well, I am always thankful to the Americans for liberating us in Germany, I live in Canada and I was born in Germany and this fine car came originally from Germany"

Total Blast.  Perfect Day.  Perfect hosts in Josie and Pete and their beautiful home.  Lots of car talk and picture taking, wonderful comrades, and admiration by many tipsy ladies in Golf Carts.
What more could you want!  Pictures will follow.

A big thank you to Peter and his wife for inviting us into their home and for lunch.

Some pictures I snapped on my cell phone today, others took better photos on actual cameras I'm sure will get posted later.

The ride over,

On the island,

At Peter and his wife's lovely house,

At the boat launch,

The ride home got a little choppy

Mike and Joe

Thanks all for a great day!

It was a phenominal day. Great hosts, great location, great weather , great people and great cars.

I used a real camera but not sure if my photo's are any better.

FYI - Put-In-Bay is the largest fresh water island in the states. It was first developed in the late 1800's as a summer resort location and still retains much of its original character. The monument you see in some of the photo's is Perry's monument, built to memorialize the battle of Lake Erie fought here between the US Navy and England during the war of 1812.

Everyone covered the pics pretty well.  A couple of more... John K. benefiting from the scholarly advice of Pete Lesler and Joe Alexander, The Tipsy Ladies from Kentucky... , and the whole crowd on the wall by the monument (except me).

What a fabulous day!  Thanks again everybody.

Thanks for sharing the nice photographs ... sorry I had to miss it, perhaps next year. As Stan pointed out great opportunity to send in a short story about the trip for the next Pagoda Notes or Pagoda World issue.

I'm sure Joe solved a few mechanical issues as you all were in his great company ... like he and his dad did in Williamsburg last September ... that would make a story in itself :) Joe and his dad solved my soft top folding problem last September it was a pleasure seeing both at work solving my stuck soft top in minutes :)

I did leave the Island a little dismayed, however.

There was no sign of Vladamir, or any Russians at all.  Just some Buckeyes, Canadians, and women from Kentucky.

What's all this fuss about Putin Bay anyway. :D

You guys rock. If it hadn't been for the Homecoming football game here in London, Ontario, I would have been there. (BTW, we won 63-15, so it was worth it.)

Question: would it have been just as easy to take the ferry to Pelee Island? Maybe we could meet there next year.

The Sandusky to pelee island ferry sails much less frequently.   It sails to pelee and then comes back an hour later.   Its very doable but we would have to make reservations and it would probably have to be an overnight trip.   Put in bay is a lot more accessible given the much more frequent ferry trips.

I would personally be down for an overnight trip to pelee.   But it would require more planning.

I would be up for a trip to Pelee next year with an overnight. Any idea how hard it is to get a hotel rook in Pelee? Put-in-Bay is booked months ahead of time, even in the fall.

Pelee Island doesn't have a lot of facilities. But that might suit a small get together anyway. It takes less than an hour to drive all the way around the island. I'll talk to some folks over the next few weeks.
