German tire pressure labels
« on: September 16, 2013, 21:26:11 »
Anyone have a photograph of the labels or stickers that would have originally been affixed on the underside of the trunk / boot lid of a Germany supplied early 280SL?

I'm interested in the format of the label(s) and placement as they would have been on a Germany spec car from the factory.

Anyone have a German car with an unrestored trunk?

Thanks

David

I would hope so!  :)

Just trying to be sure what would be on a car from a dealer in Germany at the time - some US cars I see have an oil label next to the tire pressure label but I'm not sure if those were on Euro cars originally too.

Gotcha. I don't think this will confirm it for you as my car is a late 230SL produced for the US but here's a pic of my label...

If you look closely you can see the label on my trunk.  No additional label and its all in german so I don't know what it says - but yes - unrestored German Delivery car ordered September 1969 and delivered December 1969.

This is what I have inside my trunk lid. It's a 230SL of course, so perhaps doesn't answer the question posed by the OP. But it looks like what's described here as original, and that makes me happy.
Oh, and the German text pretty much says exactly what Kevin's sticker says. And I think it's identical to the one in the ad from authenticclassics.com

I think Bob Geco has these.  I've sent him a PM but have had no response.

These pictures are a great help. Thanks everyone.

On a related note, I've seen a couple of Ebay sellers listing a black tire pressure label as being right for a 280SL. Is that wrong?
