I think those valve covers are magnesium and are rather difficult to get right. OIl will slowly soak into the pores of the metal which wil cause paint to lift off. They were painted black when new so this wasn't a problem for the factory but it is for the painter of today. One of the few post war cars I have yet to work on - aside from 300Sc of course.   ;)
