How extensive is the work needed? these pics are only the floors .the car will probably need a full restoration ,paint interior etc....

Erick,

it looks as it was one of the best illustration of one of threads posted elsewhere at this site with title "rust bucket" or something like that.
As it is a conversion, forget to take it back to the concourse state :) For that price you can source a much more decent car with original parts and without major rust problems.
I am not a specialist, but am currently having my car at restoration shop where they uncovers just three rust places (including all the three boot panels) that needed replacing.
Here you can see that most likely, the entire chassis needs revision and most likely replacement. I would call it car rebuilding and not restoration.

As a side remark, it appears to me that the current owner was not too concerned about originality. Besides the engine conversion, the tires are of Toyo, brand, which is nothing wrong, but far away from white stripe Michelins or alike :)

If you are a potential buyer, I would rather ask other Members if they are aware of some serious sources or run some reputable websites that offer Pagodas. In Canada, Dr Benz will certainly know, where to get a decent Pagoda.

Not that I cannot live without, but I would be curious to see other pics, so that I could try to understand what commanded such an exorbitant price.

For me this car is not worth that money even half that price is too much, it will need a full restoration and cost you an enormous lot of money.

The 111 Coupe and Cab are not the same car, they just look the same. I can't open the file but I understand that it's a conversion - is that correct?
First time I ever saw a 220 converted. Most are 3.5's of which I've seen quite a few and they're worth at least twice as much. The 220Seb Cab is worth about 25 - 35K if it's a solid car. Not mint, but a nice number 3 driver.

20 years ago you could buy a '' kit '' which contained all of the pieces you needed to do this conversion. What you didn't receive was the trunck lid and other parts that go with it - good luck finding those parts now. The Cabs use heaver inner frame rails and a support panel under the trans mount similar to a 113 to strenghten the chassis. They are NOT the same car but maybe a 220 would be OK because you're talking 135 HP compared to 235 HP for a 3.5 coupe.

This car would not be worth 38 K in my opinion but I didn't see it, so it may be better ( or worse ) than described.

With rust, you can be assured that there is 10 times the amount hidden from the amount you can see on the surface. $38,000 seems high considering the mountain of rust removal needed. Dan is right and the cabs have a second floor pan for rigidity. From what I have heard, that place is a cavern for rust.

Second floor pan? I haven't been under one of those cars in quite a while but at one time they were fairly common in my shop. I know the inner portion of the frame rail is about twice as thick as a regular coupe. The outer portion is the same on all cars.
The trans support panel that's bolted to the frame is similar to a 113 but it has a different profile. I think ( but really can't remember ) that there may be an extra part towards the rear of the floor pan that's a sort of triangle shaped piece which adds ridgidity to the bottom of the car. One has to remember that these cars are longer than a 113 and will have more flexing going on.
At any rate, I'm not that fond of driving Cab's. The top is rather large when folded down because of all that extra padding, which gives you a very restricted rear view from the driver's seat. They really are pretty cars though.

Hello Erick,

I fix these all the time. Its an enormous amount of work to do correctly. For instance, those rotten jack supports will require about six layers of repairs until you finnaly get to the outermost skin. Mercedes and K & K can supply most of the new metal work, but there are always a few pieces that will have to be hand crafted.  Hardly any cab parts cars these days, too rare. Starting price should be more like 15K in that condition.

Even if you throw a lot of money at the car, it can still be a waste, if repairs are not up to par.  And if you are not careful you can get more into the car than it will be worth for many years.

I know a  3.5 Cab that just went for 165k.   It did have some rust history but it was a 70,000 mi good running V-8 engine, working AC, Automatic, nice red original leather and carpet. All rust had been correctly repaired, The paint color was original and the paint was good. Top and chrome were all good.

The 220SE cab will never be as valuable as the later versions (especially the v-8s). With this in minds start adding costs which will bring this project up to market standards.  A soft top and liner restoration alone on one of these cars could run  $7.5 K plus or mimus! Now any missing or damaged chrome can add cost on fast. Now lets talk about all that expensive wood and the acres of leather.............
