[:0]... So the rear badge of this Pagoda should be "240 SL TD" or "240 SL Turbo Diesel"  ;)

Michael - Walter reported working on a diesel SL but to my knowledge this project has not yet been completed. Also I don't think this was a turbodiesel. I owned a white 1982 W123 300D turbodiesel for a while, living in Florida. It was one of the most pleasant cars I ever owned.

I had thought about adding a turbocharger to my car and went as far as to buy a spare engine so I could sacrifice that to the cause as opposed to the original. After some thought I realized that besides the fact that the engine is already 9.5 to 1 compression and the exhuust plumbing whould be a chore there is still the issue of having to change over the fuel system in order to allow for boost enrichment. I guess you could pipe a small tube over to the atmospheric diaphragm on the injection pump but that still would not be precise enough to keep from toasting a piston or two.
The end result is I like it just fine the way it is.
