Thought others might be interested in this.  A 230SL that was converted to an electric vehicle.   :'(  The comments are interesting.

He should have bought a Tesla or a Fisker Karma instead...

My new car has a little 2.2 diesel motor in it (it's a Peugeot/Ford unit but is found in all sorts of things - including now my baby Range Rover). It's good for about 200bhp and is smooth a all get out

I did think it'd be a nice unit to drop in a Pagoda, if you were that way inclined.

Tim Kidder at K&K last year converted an equally beautiful 190SL for a California customer.

As the Beatles once sang, "I don't care too much for money...."

Well, if you've got the money for such a folly then it's your inalienable right to spend it as you see fit. If you can spend it with a small business rather than a large one, so much the better!
My father-in-law is fairly careful what he spens his money on, but once he's decided he needs something he's happy to by it from a small local shop/business rather than a large faceless corporation. He feels he's doing his bit for the local economy.

Your father in law sounds like a sensible chap, other than letting his daughter marry you, obviously ;) ;D
