Starting Problem
« on: December 20, 2011, 00:20:18 »
Hello Everyone,

I have a very nice 1971 280sl driver, but in the last few months it has gotten harder to start. I have to keep trying to start it over and over. It sounds and fews like its only hitting on a few cynlinders, almost like a rough idle and after many attempts in finally kicks in with lots of smoke and once we get going it runs fine. I'm at a lost why its doing this. If anyone has had this problem I would like to hear from them.
Thanks
Scott

Hi Scott, what is the recent history on maintenance items? It could be a number of things but starting with basics: how old are plugs? points? fuel filter etc.

Scott,

Also check the starting aids on the car with a 12 volt test light or a volt meter. We can help you through the procedure if you are not familiar.
