1 key system?
« on: June 25, 2011, 16:26:38 »
A friend of mine just bought an unrestored 230SL and it seems to be missing some important keys like the glove box key and the door key.  How can he resolve this problem and Is it possible to get a one key system on these cars?  How and where should he start?  If it's possible and not too much of a hassle, I might switch to the one key system myself too.

Hi,sirasila.
I think the one key feature is only for the 280SL.The issue is with the ignition tumbler, which is specific to the 280 and will not fit on your 230.

Hello,

The door handles themselves for the one key system(double - cut key) are different than the door handles on the early multi-key (single-cut key )  cars. So it is not just a matter of changing cylinders on the doors or the gas cap. Not sure about the ignitions. The glove box would be the only easy conversion to the "double-cut key"
