Weird headlight

I've never seen this style of light.  Anyone have any info on this configuration of the lower lens?

I believe this is just the US headlight, style AN, used between October 1968 and July 1969.

My 66 230 has this style. It is a US version.

I think it is more handsome than the all yellow lens on my 71 280SL.

Where did you snap that picture?  That's the old DC tag, or part of it that you see.  One of the many garages throughout the city.

 Took delivery of my '69 280 SL in Sept '68 ("aufbau nr." 3381) and it has the AN style head lights.
