Bosch distributor cap
« on: September 26, 2010, 17:37:35 »
I recently installed a crane electronic ignition in my 1970 280sl. I replaced the plugs, wires, and coil but I am having a difficult time finding a distributor cap. Apparently there are 2 caps. One for cast iron distributors and another for aluminum distributors. I have the latter. The early type are about $10 and the latter are about $60. But the problem is all of the online and local parts sources are out of stock on my type. I even  called Bosch and they only show one part number for my car. Has anyone else run into this. Thanks.

I have a brand new in the box Bosch cap. The numbers on the box are 03014  or 1 235 522 060(03014)  MB-000 158 53 02   03 014   1 235 522060-0U1. I switched to one of those 123 ignition distributers but my old one was an aluminum one(my car should have a cast one but it ran fine) anyway I will sell it to you if it is the right one. I am in Colorado USA so I don't know how long it would take to get to you.

Hello,

Yes, there is an early and late dist. cap for the 280SL.  The 250SL dist cap should be the same as the early 280SL dist. cap.  So you may want to try asking for a dist cap for a 250SL.

Thanks. I think my local repair shop can get one. I don't know why the later type is so scarce.
