Rear-end vibration
« on: September 15, 2010, 18:26:31 »
Hello everyone, my 1970 280 sl, auto trans. (153k on trans and rear-end) has developed a vibration in the rear upon acceleration.  It almost feels like the rear flex joint needs to be replaced.  The transmission is shifting fine.  It's most noticable accelerating from a stop and in the lower gear ranges.  Once cruising not as noticable.  Any suggestions to diagnose it properly?
I also want to change the rear diff. fluid.  How do I determine if I have a limited slip diff.?  The owner's manual suggests specific diff. fluid.
Thanks
jakl

Search for "flex disk" or "flex disc"  on the forum and in the Technical Manual. Visual diagnosis is possible.
