230SL tubing - what is this one for?
« on: May 27, 2010, 01:47:04 »
I am finishing the my 230SL engine installation after about 8 months of other work.  I took a lot of photos when pulling the engine and transmission out and breaking them down, but I obviously did not take enough.  I have one piece that I cannot figure out where it belongs.  It is a piece of tubing, approximately 13 mm diameter and 800 mm long.  One end has a male threaded connection and the other was slipped into a hose.  There are a number of bends in it, and a support arm in about the middle of the tubing.

If I did this correctly, a photo of the tubing is attached.

Could anybody identify this piece and tell me where it is supposed to be installed?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Sorry I don't know the exact name of the part but I believe you will recognize the tube running behind the block.  I'm guessing it is a vacuum line.

Hi, I think this is the line that runs to the intake manifold from the fresh air valve on the WRD which is on the back of the injection pump.  The WRD will supply extra air when the engine is cold, and that air comes through the tube shown.  The smooth end fits into a hose from the WRD, the flared end goes to the intake.  Ron

Thanks for everyone's comments.  I had removed this tube when I was pulling the engine, and I missed it when putting it back together.  the threaded end connected to the bottom back side of the intake manifold.  I installed it this morning by removing some of the heater hoses and disconnecting the linkage arm on the firewall.
