WOT - A Peugeot Coupe' ?
« on: April 23, 2010, 13:15:53 »
We just returned from a couple of weeks in Provence, including four extra days courtesy of the volcano in Iceland.

Provence has much to recommend it, but not much going on with interesting cars.  But I did spot this older Peugeot coupe, unlike any I have ever seen, in l'Isle de la Sorghue at its famous flea market.

The Pininfarina badge on the quarter pannel might be a clue to what model it might be.

Isn't that  a 504 Coupe? They made a 504 convertible as well, and the v6 (?) is supposed to be a pretty special 4 seater

I believe it is a 504 Coupe.  My aunt had one, and in 1985 I drove from Heidelberg to Vienna and back in it, on the autobahns at about 120 km/hr.  Nice and comfortable.   It had official US Army plates, so we had to drop it in Vienna for a rental car to Budapest (for some reason official US Cars not allowed behind the iron curtain.  Go figure.)  I was faster than the trucks, but not as fast as the "what was that?" that just passed.  I think it was a Mercedes that just passed! ;)

The 504 had sort of a cool seat feature from what I remember.  The front seat tracks had an upward curved slope.  When you move the seat forwards it also rises.  The 504 wagon had four springs on the rear axle.

That is a Peugeot 504 Coupé, the Coupé and Convertible were launched in 1969 and phased out in the early 80's (I believe). They were most common with a 2 litre 4-cylinder, but also came with the famed V6 - not that many survive, but they are beautiful (Pininfarina) and fun to drive. Prices for good examples have gone up over the last years - this is only a 4-cylinder one: http://www.autoscout24.de/Details.aspx?id=vf3av4o1swlt
