Vintage Rear Fog Light Bulb Replacement
« on: March 08, 2010, 16:43:17 »
Does anyone have a vintage rear fog light circa 1960s thru 1980s, the small square kind that sits under the rear left bumper of Euro spec MBs?  I have just acquired one to put on my Euro spec 1970 280SL (data card states that originally it had a fog lamp).  I am looking for the correct bulb that goes into this lamp.  I'm sure it looks like a tail lamp bulb (round globe with metal base and two pins to lock in socket), but am sure it has a higher wattage then tail lamp bulb, to shine brighter.

Contacted Classic Center, but they are puzzled too as to correct part number.  Can anyone help me on this?
Thanks,
Bob

On my ML it's more of a brake bulb rather than a marker bulb.

Hi Bob, does it have a larger dia. base than a tail light bulb, and one contact in the center with the two locking pins equidistant from the end, about a cm.?  Can you see any writing on the base?  The one I'm referring to is used in the fog lamps on my euro head lights for a 230SL and also in the fog lights for the euro lights on my 220D (1971).  The number for those bulbs is Fisher: WK5319DRG or Phillips K-5302.  I was not able to find either of those numbers, but can refer you to a source in Iowa with their part number.  I'll have to dig it out of storage if you want.  Am I thinking of the correct bulb?

This may not be the bulb for the square rear Fog light but here it is in case anyone is looking for a Fog Light bulb.

This is for a round Hella vintage fog light usually seen on front bumpers.

The bulb is a "winged bayonet" 35 Watt 12 Volt.

Some numbers are: Philips 12227 or Osram 7309 5304 HYT or NARVA 49702 F2

Not sure about the others but the NARVA is available now (3/2010)

I want to thank Gimp,Richand, Ron, and Hauser for your input on this subject.  As  Ron stated," the bulb has a larger dia. base than a tail light bulb, and one contact in the center with the two locking pins equidistant from the end, about a cm. "  Fog lamp did not come with bulb, that's why I am trying to find correct bulb type.  The lamp lens is square/rectangle red.  Richard, I am sure that the front fog lamp bulbs are not the correct ones.  You should post on the "For Sale" forum topic.  Anyone else out there with rear for lamp?
Thyanks,
Bob

Have a talk with Daniel Stern about the bulb.  Perhaps he has an upgrade?

I upgraded all my bulbs with Daniel Stern.  It has made quite a difference.

Call these guys and tell them you need to get a hold of Daniel Stern.
