relay wiring

i was repairing my starting relays yesterday when i noticed the time relay (#20 on wiring diagram) had the wire going to port 85 disconnected. i resoldered it to the right spot, and when i tried to start it, nothing happened. it turned over and but the engine would fire up. so i took it off, bam started perfect.
all the relay wiring is connected appropriately from what ive looked at. any ideas why it would do this?

Sounds like a perplexing problem.

Pin 85 is connected to terminal  W on the TTS.  Pin 85 should be a ground when the engine is cold.  Here's how it works.  The thermo-time switch consists of a contact to ground for the cold start valve and a bimetallic strip surrounded by a heater winding. When the engine is cold and the key is turned to "start," the bimetallic strip contacts the ground contact and allows the cold start injector to inject fuel. When the key is turned to "on," that powers the heating element inside the thermo-time switch. As the heater warms the bimetallic strip, it eventually bends away and stops grounding the cold start valve.

It's hard to understand why putting a ground on pin 85 of the relay would cause your car not to start.  Suggest you take an ohm meter an check the connection between the relay and tts.
