It all depends on the amount of restoration you want. Take a look at ebay item 160349242105. (Disclaimer - yes, those are mine, I know that this isn't the for-sale forum, but I think that the photographs are relevant for the OPs questions). That's a restoration based on good cleaned up parts and re-webbing. The parts are about $100 and the re-webbing is $150 plus postage. Snakeoyl is going to be WAY higher than that, and probably look a little better. More generally, I would think that re-chroming is more expensive than buying good used and re-webbing only.
