Die Cast Models
« on: June 26, 2009, 12:28:35 »
It looks like I just purchased the last diecast model of 230SL #39 that was available on amazon.com, but for those interested in a silver 1:18 scale diecast 280SL, exoticar has them available.  Check out www.exoticar.com  Item # 183519.

Here is a picture of the "blue car" next to my "red car".

But I need to get the camera back out.  The hub caps came out great!

I had seven of them painted for $230.  I have the 4 chrome ones in a box.  Maybe someday I'll run into someone that wants them.

I was not happy with the quality of Novea Pagoda. Each time they come out with a model the leave something to be desired IE of painted plastic detailed engine bay. Why can't CMC or auto Art build a W113 Pagoda

I collect diecast models and one of my favorite is the Porsche 901/911 that is how I would like the Pagoda to be represented not as a kids toy but an adult display model. next time you have the time to explore diecast models go to Legacy motors or www.diecast.org. I fine that CMC is top in their filed and do not do skimp but put real metal material were it is need and right down to the Vin tag. I was highly impressed fro a not so Porsche fan.

I cannot understand how they skipped the car and have been hounding CMC to reproduce the car right down to the round dash air vents on the dash. a steel removal hard top. with luggage in the trunk and real leather seating andThe famous M13 six correctly represented master show piece in 1/18 scale.

I can't speak to the quality of the Novea model since I haven't received it yet, but I started this thread because I was surprised that there were so few 1:18 scale models of  230, 250 or 280 SLs available.

I'm glad to see the interest and will add my name to the recommendation to produce.

Hopefully, CMC or another quality manufacturer will pay attention to our requests.

Bob,
Thanks for the link to www.diecast.org.  I have over 50 1:18 scale models and somehow missed this web site.

Hello everyone,

I had dinner with the owner of AUTOart a couple of weeks ago and once again, I pressed him to release the Pagoda....to no avail....I've tried before in the past and will keep trying....I told him about how many members are on this forum etc etc....

For those of you that don't know AUTOart, they do pretty decent quality 1/18 car models.

I could not believe that they would overlook the iconic Pagoda but the reason he gave me is that their company puts all models that have been released before by other companies in the back of the queue....he also told me that their Mercedes model do not sell as well as other makes.....maybe that's because they just release boring sedans that no one else has released before!!!

I'll keep on trying...

Auto Art does make some exceptional models of Mercedes-Benz special sedans . I have a 190-16 evo  in dark grey metallic very nice shut line are perfect and good detail. I also believe they offer the racing version of the 300SEL 6.3 which I must get to add to my Mercedes-Benz model collection

I cannot believe a company that has a strong market awareness in the united States and the rest of the world would turn down the chance to beat out their competition CMC to building a 1/18 scale die cast replica of the Pagoda SL.
I just ordered one of one hounded BRE 240Z #46 signed by Bill Norton from the Brock Yates collection. It is Mr. K's 100 birthday so this model is already a collectable. Go to www.BRE.com or www.diecast.org go to 1/18 scale forum and look for false start for BRE  240Z. for information ON the BRE 240Z Model to be released at pebble beach this month they will go fast . I am # 22 on the list.

I have send our president Peter Van Es a copy of A letter I told him to help modify to send to CMC. Perhaps if you give me the contact name of the person you spoke to I will send this letter to them modified of course . with a CD of our last years car caravan of Pagodas. Perhaps he does not know how many survivors their are out of tattle of 43,000 built between 1964 to 1971.

Hope we can get a descent model made to reflect the importance of this car's historical senescence

I just received an out standing over the top PR letter with the help of our President Peter Van ES addressed to CMC. Peter also contacted the our counter parts in Germany the Pagoda club . I need to make it clear the Peter has a flair for writing.

I am getting some Cd's from our friend Dick Mentzer to send out to other potential die cast auto model companies to convince them of the rarity of our car and that making this model could improve their chances of selling world wide to many Mercedes-Benz dealerships and the classic center here and in Europe.

my Sincerely thanks to Peter Van Es for his remarkable letter writing skills.

Hello Die Cast Model Fans:

Found this New Ray model kit number 539 while cleaning out some car junk (oops, my valuable car accessories collection). Seems to be a relatively recent item (has a bar code and website listed on the box.) 1:43 1968 280SL.

Is this just an ordinary model kit that I can go ahead and assemble or is it a valuable collector item that should be preserved in the box?

Richard,

I am selling most of my mother in law's estate items for the family.  She was an Anglophile, and there's a lot of English items.  Among them was a small "Matchbox" car set.  It was actually a "Corgi" gift set, consisting of matchbox size Double Decker bus, an Austin Taxi, a  Morris Minor, and a Policeman.  Circa late 1970's.

Was bid up to $99, and bought by a proxy service for some Japanese collector.  Go figure.  If you hold onto your model, your grandchildren might have a lot of money!
