Not a good beginning--can't open my door

Well, I had a few minutes this morning, so I thought I would take a look under the hood of my newly acquired 250SL to determine what would be involved in changing the thermostat,..............and I can't get in the car!!!!!  I went out and locked it last night,  never bothered to make sure I could unlock the doors with a key.   Well, it turns out I don't have a key to unlock the doors,....tried both,........or,....perhaps the lock cylinders are "seized".

The hard top is on the car, but it looks like a coat hanger would easily slip by the glass...........Also have a couple of old "slim Jims" in the garage.

Any tips on how to break into my new car??

HOLD ALL REPLIES!  Wow, what an easy car to break in to!!!

Hold the window out away from the body,  insert long pry bar/screwdriver,.....flip lever on door forward-----Ta Da!

Hey Brian.

Glad you got in. Now when you say tried both keys -- I think that is the next problem. I know the earlier cars had at least three keys. Ignition, Doors, Trunk & Glove box. Mine happens to have a 4th that does Gas Cap but I believe not all have 4 ... Yours might need 3.

be careful pulling on glass this old, I broke my window that way. 40 year old glass is brittle

How did you lock it without the propper key? I can't lock my car without the key. Maybe its different on a 250?
I have one key for ignition
one for the doors
one for the trunk
and one for the glove box (replacement) lock.

Anyway, glad to hear you got in without breaking anything.

I have a 1969 280sl with 4 keys. Later in 1969 they keyed most of the locks the same. My passenger door can be locked without using a key. My driver's door requires a key to lock it.

Glad you got in without damaging anything !

I managed to survive 33 years without ever losing a key or locking myself out of a car !

However I've done it 3 times in as many weeks !!

Dont ask..........things on my mind !

Anyway twice was with the soft top on so no problems there then the thrid time I locked them into the trunk !  My car was blocking an entrance but the guy I was blocking gave me he=is forklift truck key and whaddya know...........it worked !

In fact it worked even better than the correct key !!
