Auxiliary Fuse Box in Engine Bay
« on: January 29, 2009, 18:16:05 »
Has anybody here with a RHD car got this fuse box.
I need pictures of where and how its mounted in the engine bay.
I guess cars with factory fitted radios would have one?

Thanks

Naj,

I did not think any of the cars came from the factory with radios, but that they were fitted after the fact at the dealers, like the A/C.

Ok, what about pre-radio equipment then?
like the 4 copper contactors on the bonnet (hood) latch?
I'm asking about the 2 fuse fusebox in the engine bay.

Hi Naj, I am sure you need the RHD not the LHD location, correct? Otherwise, I can help. Sits just next to VR (see the golden trumpet pic from recent breather pipe discussion)...

Hello Naj,
some time ago a member in Australia downloaded a bunch of pictures showing details of his unrestored RHD 230SL. I searched but could not find the topic and don't remember his name. (Perhaps "hands aus" remembers?). Anyway, here are four of his pics that I downloaded - but it doesn't appear that his car had the auxiliary box.

Thanks for jogging my memory, Alfred,

Found it in a picture of a '71 UK car.

Glad you found it - but on which side of the engine bay is it?

Naj,

Together with my fuse box there are the other solenoids etc. The multipul items on the LH and the single item on the RH.

Is that what you are looking for?

Right hand side. Tucked up behind the brake booster. Seems like a bracket is used bolted to the upper inner booster stud.

Hello, Garry,

There is a small fuse box with 2 fuses on cars equiped with a radio. One is meant to feed the radio, not sure what the second fuse does.
I wanted to know where its mounted as I am adding a circuit on my car and need extra fuse(s).

I have found a picture of a '71 car with one tucked up behind the brake booster.
One wire is green/red which I believe is for the radio. The second wire is black/red. The wire on the throttle switch on that car is also black/red.

Your pictures are not showing it, but have a look at the picture I posted yesterday.

Thanks for your pictures.

Hi Naj,
The area between the brake booster and the fuse box on my car as per photo 1 has the brake boost hose and non return valve.

There are no other fuse boxes in the engine bay.  Being night here now, I stuck my camera under the drivers side dash which is photo 2 and 3. that may help where the other fuse box is for raido etc?

Hello, Garry,

Maybe your car was ordered without radio or pre-radio wiring when new?

I think you may be right Naj.  Whilst it has a Becker radio now which I have not reconnected since taking the dash apart,, I cannot see on my data card any reference to the option.
I had another search and cannot find any other fuse box unfortunately so cannot help.
