Frame Rail replacement

I'm going for broke... instead of patching, I'm going to replace an entire side frame rail.  I've gotten lots of useful advice from Tim at KK, but if anyone has had personal experience with this task (other than writing a check to a restoration shop) I'd sure like to pick your brain!

Phil,

Had both mine done.

Measure everything before you start.  Make good brackets for the doors.  Keep the hard top on.   Every millimeter at this stage gets multiplied as you proceed.  Take it slow.

Thanks Jim,

I had in mind fabricating some door braces, but hadn't thought of installing the hardtop... makes a lot of sense
