Auto Transmission won't shift into park

The auto transmission will not shift into park.  It shifts just fine N --> R, N -- > 4,3,2, etc.  But, when trying to shift into park the shift linkage slips off the range selector knob mounted on the side of the transmission.  The linkage lever bushings are new.  I've checked the linkages at the "0" or "N" setting and everything is set.  The car runs and drives well, I just cannot park it in "P" position.  I have to park in Neutral, use E Brake and wheel chocks for good measure.

Everything I've read suggests linkage adjustment, but nothing appears bent or out of adjustment.  Thoughts?

Is the lever hitting the transmission mount plate?  This happens as the engine mounts and transmission mounts age and sag.
