key -- anyone know what it's for?
« on: November 12, 2014, 05:21:42 »
I was removing the glove box to get access to the clock and found this key & this radio tag.  Anyone recognize this key and what it might be for?   See photos.   The tag must be for the radio as the car has a Blaupunkt --- I don't know if the key is related to the radio.    Would appreciate your thoughts.

Could it be for the antenna, to pull it up from when it's completely retracted?

The tag would normally be on the side of the radio.  Glue must have dried up and it fell off.  The E suggests the radio is from the early/mid '70's, probably '73.

When new, it would have been attached to a ring and a small booklet like this one ...

You are correct. The Benz antenna had a wite plug at the end with two notches/gaps spaced 180 degrees apart. The key you show fits into the notches to liberate the antenna tip from its snug storage level on the fender. RIc Garland,Montreal,Canada
