Under Dashboard Panels

This component is part of Interior.

Definition

All 113s were originally fitted with a series of under dashboard panels (in German: Verkleidung unter Armaturenbrett). There are three panels, which vary in shape depending on the transmission style and whether the car was outfitted with A/C.

Function

The under dashboard panels serve two purposes. First, they provide a barrier between the footwell and the various wiring and mechanical components under/behind the dashboard. Second, due to their foam backing, they serve as soundproofing for engine and road noise. The panels are designed to be removable, allowing access to the dash instruments, wiring, etc. They are thus fastened with phillips-headed screws.
