I found this video to  be  a very good explanation of the emission control system.  If its been already shared please let me know and I can delete this post.

This is very good, maybe it can be put, (with the permission of the producer) in the technical aera.

This video has been linked before, and it is excellent. Now you also know why most European restorers or garages remove this whole circuitry from cars imported from the US. It just gives the "appearance" of doing something about emissions...
