W11x Re-Upholstery
« on: April 23, 2021, 15:46:32 »
I have a situation, On my 1965 Coupe, the leather interior are good condition excepted 2 front seats, top of rear seat and top of rear back with vinyl cover and bright green replaced with the previous owner. Any suggestions what I should do in this case, I don't mind to re upholstery all, but I would love to keep thing original. If I recover the seats in the new leather, will they match with my original?

Nice car...4 speed and very rare factory headrests. You can get leather samples from the vendors and compare to what you have on the car now. If you do decide to recover just the front seats, I would use the "Old Timer" leather versus standard grade. It has better grain and has a higher quality feel. I think if you do both front seats and headrests, the older material may blend in ok. Hard to say from pictures though.

Replacing the entire interior leather is really expensive. Not so much for the leather itself, but the labor of custom installing all of the pieces. They sell seat kits, but the rest has to be custom tailored.

Good luck!

Thank you, Wallace. Yes they are rare factory headrests. Any vendors that you recommend?

Leatherique sells products that clean and refresh the leather (even stiff cracked leather). Then use their dye product to restore or change the color. It even works on white to black or vice versa.

If I understand you correctly, someone has "repaired" your fronts seats with vinyl instead of leather. And that the vinyl is a different color than the original leather? We have a list of leather vendors and is here: https://www.sl113.org/wiki/Suppliers/Start

GAHH, German Auto Tops (GAT) and World Upholstery are some of the few that are tossed around here.

BTW, being a Full member, you have access to all of this. Enjoy!
