Wiring on accelerator pedal

(1/1)

ctaylor738:
Again on the 111.023, 220SE with automatic transmission.  The accelerator pedal will no longer stay attached at the base and is being replaced at enormous cost with a new one from the Classic Center.  But what is this on the back of the pedal?  It's not the kick down switch, that is on the floor.  The connector with the four screws may be a switch.  But if so, what does it switch?

Cheers,

The switch on the back of the gas pedal is essentially your throttle position switch. This is an earlier setup to the later more common version in the throttle body.
This actuates the auto transmission solenoid. Your transmission will slip without the use of the switch.
You might try to use a weather strip adhesive in conjunction with 2 wire ties carefully and methodically wrapped around the base of the pedal and the metal provision on the floor that the base of the pedal mounts to.
I have seen this before and done this above recommended repair with success.
I assume this is a common problem for the pedal to deteriorate on the base.
I hope this helps.

Peter
