Pulling Transmission and Dyno Testing
« on: February 20, 2009, 17:30:37 »
I pulled the automatic transmission out of my 1971 280SL to be dyno tested.  The transmission was operating fine, but I'm finishing up my restoration and decided to have all the mechanicals gone through.

The transmission is at one of the best MBZ transmission shops on the west coast.  Is there anything that I should have them replace while it's off the car, such as seals, switches, etc?  Is there anything that you would not touch if the transmission was operating fine?

Hello,

Once you start it is hard to find a place to stop.  At the very least, I would replace the front and rear main seals, the filter and pan gasket.

After that all rubber seals, o-rings and gaskets. Once you have gone this far and this deep you will probably not be far from all new clutches being replaced etc, etc.   Complete rebuild?

If yours has the riveted torque converter hub, have them pressure check the unit for leaks.

Thanks for the suggestions Joe!  I have the solid steel hub, so hopefully everything is in order there.
