rear brake re assembly question
« on: April 29, 2006, 20:50:19 »
I finally have the actuating pins for my rear brake pistons.  the manual says to coat everything with brake fluid then re assbemble.

should I also coat the actuating pins before inserting them into the pistons?  I do not want to put corrosive brake fuild on something I should not

No, only coat the sides of the cups . Everything else should be dry or it will start to rust over time. You can use a bit of brake slider grease on the pins and maybe the pistons ( it's sort of a clear white paste ) that's used around disc brakes.
Normally I don't use anything except on the brake shoe pivot. Don't use anything that's ordinary grease or it can soften the rubber seals in the cylinder. If you're using new cylinders ( and you should be ) they come pre lubed and don't need aything else. Just push the pins through the rubber seals and that's it.
