Hey folks,

After paying $330 to have the two short oil cooler hoses made up with MY fittings at a local hose shop, I decided to spring for my own hydraulic/A/C hose crimper.  It's a pretty heavy-duty, yet simple device.  I got it primarily because I am going to completely re-plumb all my A/C hoses, and wanted to be able to control the exact fitment myself.  I am going to install hard metal through-fittings through the firewall rather than just run hose through rubber grommets, for a neater, more secure installation.

Since this tool will most likely only see 2-3 uses in my lifetime, I'll be happy to crimp any member's hose at no charge (other than actual material cost), if mailing costs make sense. 

Once my own project is complete, I'll be happy to lend the tool out, but don't count on that for 2-3 months min.

In the Group’s early years, a tool rental or tool exchange program was discussed. I don't recall the details, but some aspect was too difficult to manage properly.  Now 20+ years on, maybe it could be discussed again.

As I recall, that program was for two hubcap painting stencils, where members would use one, then forward it to the next member needing one. We then lost track of who had which one last and they disappeared. If it were to be tried again, I would suggest one person, in this case of the hose fitting crimper, obriensdad would loan out the tool to whoever but only after receiving a deposit of significant enough value that he would be pretty sure to receive it back, then refund the deposit. Autoparts stores have similar programs.

I believe the wheel cover painting stencils, for the USA are in Michigan, with one of our members. I tracked them down a couple of years ago.

I agree with Cees' process.  Maybe we could provide a Tools On Loan forum where (full?) members could conduct their own loan activities to their own arrangements.  We just provide an easy place for people to find each other.  Another option is to expand the Want To Buy forum to include Want To Borrow.
