230SL Hardtop rear attachment posts (Success)!
« on: December 30, 2019, 23:29:31 »
In the process of redoing the hardtop upholstery. Need to remove the rear left and right) hold-down posts. Does anyone know if there is a correct direction to push the pins out? They seem to be the same diameter either side of the post. Also, what is that threaded piece that is hanging out the bottom? Does that come out? Any insight will be much appreciated.

The insight provided I was able to remove the pins with a little heat, Kril oil and vicegrips...working the pin back and forth and pulling while doing. Thanks again. Now, I just need new pins. Oh the threaded piece at the bottom is a set screw...to keep the pin from moving...I guess.

I Have experience with the HT of the 280SL (1969).
See picture below.
It has not the threaded piece that is hanging out the bottom, it could be a “leftover” of the previous owner.

The two “cylinders” left and right have to be pulled by force. If no success they have to be drilled out and bought new, still available by MB see A numbers below.
