Modified 190SL
« on: February 26, 2011, 17:50:24 »
I was talking to Jon at the Classic Center. He asked me if I wanted to see a 190SL that was slightly modified. I said sure so he sent me these pictures. The car was built on a 65SL frame and has a 65SL motor which was worked to produce around 645HP.

This car was at Classic last weekend for the 190 SL Group's WinterTech club event that Classic was hosting.  I understand it was a big hit and over the top quality workmanship.  I'm sorry I missed it due to weather and plane problems.  One of the 190 SL club members drove the car.

BTW, if I forgot to post, I got some clarification on the data card situation that we've been discussing.  It's the "Zertificate" that is being more closely guarded now, not the data card information that is available with proof of ownership.  Hope this helps.

645 HP?  I'm not sure any SL of the era can handle 645 HP.  I would think that modifiying the steering, brakes, suspension, etc. to handle such performance would be considerably more difficult than adding the horsepower...

That would be a typo. I'm sure it's supposed to be 64HP - at the rear wheels.

According to a note on the German Pagode Club web site starting January 2011  Daimler has completely canceled the issue of Certificates.  But, as you wrote, the a copy of the date card is still available with proof of ownership.  I wonder how many owners there are who had ordered a certificate.

Hello John and Dan,

Did you notice the nice and extremely rare early chrome locking gas cap on that 190SL before restoration! Someone should track that down.
