Injection ?
« on: May 05, 2025, 14:50:40 »
Hello all ,

During our last Euro Event i found my SL pluming Some smoke on shifting and throttle release.
Even my fellow participants warned me so i knew i could add it to the list of things to do on return home.

Since the engine head had been done 5 years ago ( new guides ), i suspected the valve guide seals.
So everyone who has done this job know it is tedious and time consuming, but in the end I got it done .
I used the compressed air Methods with a remote starter switch . The same i use when adjusting the valve clearance .

So Gotta it all back together again to find it was not starting . Nothing not even a turn over or one ignition .
Checked if i got spark , yes .  Checked if i got compression , yes 6 time 160..170 PSI.
Do i have fuel ??  The pump gives plenty and so is the cold start valve .
I loosened one of the high pressure lines and installed a spare injector with a small bag at the end , and yes I have fuel , although I don’t know what is a normal quantity ? .   The rack is free ( removed the little nut on the front of the pump and with a plastic pin could move it freely ) .Removed the solenoid to check it to find that it is working .

Before i started to work on it to change the valve guide seals i ran perfectly and nothing is changed .
So what am i overlooking here ??

Hope you can help me to see the light  :)

Greetings Rick

Did you check spark on all cylinders? I would start with the ignition side but agree it's strange that it won't start given what you have reported.
Second quick check would be to squirt some brake cleaner or starter fluid into the intake manifold to see if it could still be fuel related.

Hi,
Which ignition do you use: conventional or electronic? In case of electronic (e.g. 123ignition) check if it's working correctly, see https://123ignitionusa.com/trouble-shooting/.

Thanks ,

yes i do run 123 ignition, and always very happy with it , but i will check it out .

Will also try the starter pilot can to spray some in the inlet .

Well finally success .  After a lot of testing and trying got my car running again .

It was the 123 distributor. Probably the constant starting when changing the valve guide seals , was to much for the electronics .
So in future i will unhook the electronic ignition when using the remote starter switch.

Thanks
