Uploading photo attachments problem
« on: March 26, 2023, 07:48:15 »
Is it just me or is anyone else getting an error when try to post a photo ? I have tried replying to a thread  to include a photo and it
will not post. I keep getting the following error :-

"This page isn't working at the moment  www.sl113.org can't currently handle this request.
HTTP ERROR 500"

The attachment is not a large file and is around half the size of the allowed file size. I have tried different browsers, even different computers with no luck.

AlpineLTD,

Maybe it has something to do with your status as "vendor"?  Maybe a vendor is only permitted to post attachments in For Sale or Commercial Advertising forums?  Just a guess.

I have had no trouble up until now. I don't really no why i have been labelled as a vendor. I simply help out other owners by recreating the data cards, not
exactly a business operation.
Anyway I tried again yesterday evening with a small file size photo and that uploaded fine. The file i was trying before were just over 2mb, I was lead to believe
these should upload but unfortunately didn't.

Interesting ... I have no idea why you had problems.  Maybe Peter will see this and chime in.

Your vendor status has no effect on your uploading ability. It only gives you the right to post new "for sale" posts, advertising your data cards in the Commercial forum. If you'd like to have that status removed just send me a mail and I'll do it.

The 500 error you encounter can have 3 causes:
  • a temporary performance problem on the server
  • a malformed image file meaning the system does not believe the upload ever completes
  • bad or incorrect cookie settings for sl113.org on your device

What file, with what file name and extension are you trying to upload? Does the extension match the file type? There are some file types we do not accept yet (e.g. .webp files).

You can clear all your cookies for sl113.org in your browser too and try again.

Thanks Peter. It was simply a .jpg file  just over 2mb in size. Each time i received the 500 error. I tried on and Iphone, and 3 different PCs. I then reduced the file size to
around 500kb which uploaded. I have not tried again with a larger file size.
best regards
