Fuel injector pump

My mechanic believes a worn cam in the injector pump is preventing the engine from idling smoothly. Does anybody know where I can purchase a new one?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I would see if you can borrow another pump first to see whether it is the issue, before buying a new cam (may not be available anymore) or complete pump. Not an expert by any means, but have not heard of this problem ever before.

just send the pump off to be checked. Any diesel pump specialist will quickly tell you whether the fuel delivery is not the same for all cylinders. A more specialist rebuilder would be better for proper set-up of course.

Wear on the 3d cam is compensated for with adjustments. There is a setscrew under a cap on the side of the unit that will move the stylus support pin to a different location compared to the rack position. However, this is not a DIY. It needs to be sent to a specialist and put on a flow bench. You may want to try enriching the main rack with shims under the baro, then go back and adjust the idle circuit. Leaking delivery valves or a bad injector/s would be more likely a cause if everything else has been checked. (Timing, points, linkage, fuel pressure, vacuum leaks, compression, etc)

Cees and stickandrudderman, I live in Australia and there is absolutely no one who will set up the pump, not even diesel pump specialists.

Tyler, I will pass your suggestion on to my mechanic who has worked on a 330sl pump and got that running really well.

After speaking with my mechanic based on the advice from the three men who replied to my request, I really need to have the injector pump set up by an expert. Does anyone know of such a person or company in Australia? Failing that, which I think will be the case, what would be a good specialist company in the US that I could send the pump to?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I don't know of anyone in Australia who can do this, though there must be a few left somewhere. These two group members may be able to help: 'mirkwood' in QLD and 'drmb in NZ.

If you are looking to send it to the US. I have dealt with Jerry Fairchild. He was recommended by some of the forum members. He was very easy to deal with and seamed very knowledgeable. My pump is not back in the car yet so I can't tell you about the actual performance. See web-side below.
