Hi Guys,
I am slowly but surely getting this 280sl ready for the 50th anniversary, but as usual, have more questions. How does the brake fluid reservoir come off of the master cylinder? When I put it back together after sand blasting and painting, should I put in new gaskets/grommets? Any tricks to use in sand blasting the brake booster? Is there a gasket that I need to buy for the brake booster? Thanks guys......

Hi NC--

The brake fluid reservoir is attached to the top of the master cylinder with a hollow screw located at the bottom of the reservoir. When reattaching, Use new gaskets and grommets.

Thanks, will do. I appreciate the help. The service manual didn't show that.

This is true for the 230 m/c.
On the 280, the resevoir is held in place by just 2 rubber grommets. Suggest empty both sides of the reservoir using a syringe and the just pull it off
Refit with new rubbers...

Thanks, that was what I thought, but wasn't sure. I blasted the master cylinder with the reservoir on it and all holes plugged. I am considering buying new reservoirs and rubber grommets while I have it off.

I just re-did my brake system too, including the booster.
There is only one seal (o-ring) where the master cylinder connects to the booster. Furthermore, I replaced the little filter which is located at the plunger.
You have to take the little sheet metal cap of to get to it.
