Early 230SL Spare Tire Well
« on: December 20, 2011, 06:18:55 »
I own a early 1964 230SL that I am currently restoring and would like to correct a change made during a restoration done in the late 1970's.
During that earlier restoration the vertical spare tire well was replaced by a sheet metal panel for a later model meant for cars with the  horizontal  mount.

I would like change it back to the original type but can't seem to find one  through the suppliers listed in the vendor section.  Does anyone know where I can acquire one of the old style well?

I purchased my car out of storage where it was for 28 years. I am currently in the middle of restoring my car and am finding this forum extremely helpful.  Thank you to all who contribute.

Hi,

I have the same car !

http://www.sls-hh-shop.de/index.php/cat/c3_Mercedes-Benz-230SL-250SL-280SL-Pagoda--R113-W113-.html/XTCsid/su18f37csv69p2tg9ibevdsts3#ca

Look in the section "Body frame and panelling"

SLS in Germany have them, 481 Euros. Mercedes may have them also, check because sometimes MB are actually cheaper than SLS.

Steve.
